Current as of April 13, 2010 About half of all Medi-Cal beneficiaries are in managed care plans. Enrollees are typically children, pregnant women, and non-disabled parents. California has a unique system of managed care, with three different models operating across various counties: Two Plan: Medi-Cal beneficiaries are enrolled in one of two managed care plans, either a public entity known as a “Local Initiative” or a commercial plan. County Organized Health System (COHS): A county operates the only offered Medi-Cal managed care plan. Geographic Managed Care: Medi-Cal contracts with various commercial health plans. For those interested, CPCA conducts a Medi-Cal Managed Care Task Force as a forum to discuss community clinic and health center issues relating to Medi-Cal Managed Care health plan contracts and monitor concerns and changes in the Medi-Cal Managed Care environment to provide CPCA with guidance on responding to these developments.
