There are over 17 million women in California, and many face serious health care needs. More than one-fifth of women in the state are uninsured, higher than the national average. Women, as opposed to men, are more likely to live in poverty, which contributes to their lack of health care access. The PartnershipIn response to the tremendous women's health care needs of the state, the California Primary Care Association (CPCA), in collaboration with American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum, Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, California Family Health Council, California's Black Women's Health Project, and Women's Health Collaborative, has begun to build bridges among diverse groups of organizations to advance women's health and policy issues. This California Women's Health Care Partnership (CWHCP) has created a network for organizations from around the state, representing state and local leaders in women's health, health care providers, advocates, researchers, communities of color, and consumers. Purpose The purpose of the CWHCP is to impact policy in the women's health area in order to promote well-being and eliminate health disparities for women throughout the state. To achieve this goal, the following are proposed activities for the CWHCP:
