Session 1:
INTRODUCTION TO INTEGRATED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE: LAYING THE GROUNDWORK

When: Wednesday, February 13, 2008/1:00-2:30 pm

Nationally renowned integrated behavioral care expert and consultant Kurt Strosahl, PhD will focus on the importance of integrated behavioral care; its key principals; its treatment philosophy; and the respective roles of primary care providers and behavioral counselors.

Session 2:
INTEGRATED BEHAVIORAL CARE: LIFE IN THE TRENCHES

When: Wednesday, March 5, 2008/1:00-2:30 pm

Dr. Peter Van Houten, CEO and Medical Director and Jennifer Sale, LCSW, Behavioral Health Counselor, Sierra Family Medical Clinic, and Dr. John Aleman, Medical Site Director, and Elizabeth Morrison, LCSW, from Golden Valley Health Centers will explain how integrated care plays out on an operational level, from both the providers' and counselors' perspective.

Session 3:
PARTNERING WITH COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

When: Wednesday, March 26, 2008/1:00-2:30 pm

Some primary care providers are already ahead of the curve in forging collaborative agreements with their county mental health departments. This webcast will introduce models developed in three counties: Shasta, San Diego, and San Mateo - from vision to implementation. Presenters will include Nicole Howard from Council of Community Clinics in San Diego; Lynn Dorroh, Director, Hill Country Community Clinics in Shasta County; and Celia Moreno, Medical Director and Cheryl Walker, Unit Chief, Primary Care Interface, San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services.

Session 4:
USING EVIDENCE-BASED MENTAL HEALTH INTERVENTIONS

Jurgen Unützer, MD, MS, MPH, Professor and Vice-Chair of University of Washington's Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and a nationally recognized expert in treating depression in primary care settings, will speak about innovative models of care for depression and on translating research on evidence-based mental health treatments into effective general clinical and public health practice. An author of over 150 articles in peer reviewed medical journals, Dr. Unützer is the principal investigator of project IMPACT, a multi-site initiative to improve the treatment of late-life depression in primary care. A report in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that the IMPACT model doubles the effectiveness of usual care for late-life depression across a wide range of health care settings. Dr. Unützer currently leads a five-year initiative that works with diverse health care organizations around the country to implement evidence-based models of depression care such as IMPACT.


Session 5:
ADDRESSING BEHAVIORAL COMPONENTS OF CHRONIC PHYSICAL ILLNESSES

Bill Rosenfeld, M.C., L.P.C., Vice President and Director of Mountain Park BehavioralHealth Center in Phoenix, Arizona, will discuss how Mountain Park Center has effectively used the collaborative treatment model in addressing behavioral health components of chronic illness. Mountain Park Health Center participates in a nationwide effort to improve the care patients receive, particularly when they have been newly diagnosed with a chronic illness such as diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular disease or obesity. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, and behavioral health counselors all work as a team to treat the special needs of this patient population. Bill will focus on the role of the behavioral counselors in this effort.
