CPCA Health Care Reform Issue Briefs

On March 23, 2010, President Barack Obama signed comprehensive health reform, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), into law. For decades, California community clinics and health centers (CCHCs) have been diligent at the local, state and federal levels in pushing for comprehensive health care reform and now is the opportunity to continue to lead in the important work of implementation that is only beginning. The federal reform offers many opportunities as well as challenges that will necessitate a collaborative and organized effort by CPCA and its members to ensure that health care reform works at the community and individual health center level, and that those left out of federal reform continue to have access to CCHC services. CPCA staff have prepared the following background summaries of key elements of health care reform with specific emphasis on the sections and programs in PPACA that most directly affect CCHCs and their patients.
