Create Safe Spaces To Talk About Racism & Anti-Black Racism

DATE:  Wednesday, December 2, 2020
TIME:  1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Pacific)

Greek physician Hippocrates is attributed with the quote, “First, do no harm.” Unfortunately, too often conversations about racism and anti-Black racism results in harm: frustration, anger, resentment and denial. However, successful conversations can result in empathy, insight, connectedness and allyship. Organizationally across race, we all desire the latter. How do we start and where do we begin?  This webinar discusses how to create safe spaces to talk about racism and anti-Black racism.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Clarify context: Why does it matter and why now?
  • Analyze the importance of level setting: racial definitions and education;
  • Discuss the safety of similarity group discussions and other safety considerations; and,
  • Assess readiness for mixed group conversations about racism and anti-Black racism.
