Complementary medicine, also referred to as integrative medicine, is a term describing treatment that is used in complement to mainstream therapies - think acupuncture, chiropractic alignment, yoga, and mindfulness. Complementary medicine, under the right circumstances and combined with traditional medical/behavioral models, can be especially helpful for patients with chronic pain, or who are in recovery from a substance use disorder. These therapies can give patients tools to help deal with stress, anxiety, withdrawal, and cravings associated with their chronic pain or recovery. Health centers, with their whole person framework, are ideal settings to integrate complementary services with clinical care.

This 60-minute webinar will provide an overview of the options available to FQHCs looking to incorporate alternative services. The panelists will review clinical and operational considerations to incorporating complementary therapies; and financial considerations that enable a sustainable program. The presentation is relevant to health centers exploring complementary therapies generally, and in support of integrated medication assisted treatment programs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
