Enhancing Empathy Within Health Care Teams

DATE: Tuesday, October 24, 2017
TIME: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. (PST)

Developing trust between care teams and patients is critically important for practices to be effective providers of high quality care. In this 60-minute webinar, we will explore strategies for developing empathetic communication skills within clinical teams and identify the effects of improved communication on clinical effectiveness, provider satisfaction, and patient care experience. We will also hear from a health center that has adopted an innovative method of improving cross-team collaboration and communication skills training.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Enhance understanding of the importance of empathic communication and the impact on patient outcomes, healthcare team job satisfaction, and patient experience;
  • Improve ability to identify evidenced-based communication techniques for patients and colleagues, as well as strategies to identify and mitigate judgement/biases that are barriers to empathic communication;
  • Increase knowledge of learning and development strategies to effectively engage multi-disciplinary providers in training for empathic communication.
