WEBCAST: SUD Treatment in California's FQHCs

SUD Treatment in California's FQHCs: Findings & Opportunities

This OnDemand webcast was recorded on 01/21/26.

California health centers play a critical role in expanding access to substance use disorder (SUD) care. This session shares findings from a landscape assessment, conducted by Aurrera Health Group and the California Healthcare Foundation, examining how Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) across California are currently delivering and financing SUD care, and where opportunities exist to go further. The session is designed for FQHC leaders, clinicians, policy staff, and partners seeking a clearer understanding of the Medi-Cal SUD policy and financing landscape and practical pathways to advance integration.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Explain how California FQHCs are currently providing and being reimbursed for SUD services, including key differences between Medi-Cal managed care and county behavioral health pathways.
  • Identify common barriers health centers experience when integrating SUD treatment into primary care, including workforce, training, financing, and system fragmentation challenges.
  • Highlight opportunities—across policy, delivery system redesign, and partnerships—to advance whole-person, integrated SUD care in primary care settings.
