IMPACT. ACCESS. INNOVATION. VALUE.
For our 25th Anniversary, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our staff and our members in making health care accessible for California’s diverse population. We hope you will join us in celebrating our 25th Anniversary throughout the year by sharing your story on social media with the hashtag #CPCA25, or by submitting your video to our 25th Anniversary video contest (see below).
Over the past 25 years, the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) has enjoyed immense success. Originally created by California health center leaders in 1994 with minimal staff and minor investment, CPCA has grown to represent the interests of the largest health center network in the country. It hasn’t always been an easy road, and the early years proved difficult, but working together, CPCA and its members have forged a path for others to follow.
Since their inception, community health centers (CHCs) have been the backbone of our health care system and have an imperative impact on the communities they serve. Today, more than 1,330 CHCs serve the state of California, and provide comprehensive, high quality care to nearly 7 million people – one out of every six residents. In these communities, CHCs are an important engine supporting local economies, bringing in an infusion of crucial state and federal funds to these areas and providing high-paying professional jobs for local residents.
As evidenced by our success under the ACA, CHCs provide vital services to our state’s most venerable residents. California CHCs serve nearly 40 percent of the state’s Medicaid population, roughly one out of every three Medi-Cal patients. And, CHCs are the primary care provider to more than 54 percent of the Medicaid beneficiaries in California who gained coverage under the ACA.
As the state’s health center network has grown, so has CPCA – from a small office with only three employees to nearly 50 people taking an entire floor. CPCA operates a robust training and technical assistance program with health center-specific and clinical expertise, as well as a number of boutique events and an annual conference that rivals any other PCA. CPCA continues to build a strong policy and advocacy department, which has enjoyed a successful record in advocating for the issues and concerns of California’s health centers and the patients they serve – and formed a c(4) organization, CaliforniaHealth+ Advocates in 2016 to make a greater impact at both the state and federal level.
Thank you to all of the members, partners, funders, sponsors, and staff that have contributed to CPCA's IMPACT over the past 25 years.
