For our 25th Anniversary, we’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our staff and our members in making health care accessible for California’s diverse population. We hope you will join us in celebrating our 25th Anniversary throughout the year by sharing your story on social media with the hashtag #CPCA25

California community health centers are on a mission to improve the health and quality of life for individuals throughout the state, which in turn improves community health, education outcomes and economic stability. In fact, community health centers are the backbone of healthy communities and a healthy California, bringing value to not only those they directly serve – but the entire state.

More than 1,300 community-based health centers throughout the state provide primary care, preventive health care and other vital services to thousands of Californians each day. For example, our health centers offer cancer screenings, family planning, prenatal care, mental health, chiropractic care, dental and vision care – all under one roof! Community health centers are located in neighborhoods throughout California and are often the only provider of primary and preventive health care in a community.

Community health centers provide high-quality medical care, preventive screening and education services. The clinical and support staff is very proud of the quality of work they do, and bring their passion to work each day. Our services help keep families healthy. They keep children in school. They keep adults on the job. They help keep elderly residents independent. Further, our centers help patients learn how to take charge of their health and their family’s health, and how to make wise decisions now and in the future. Community health centers provide valuable peace of mind to our patients, knowing that we are their trusted local partner in their health care needs.

Health center patients tell us that they feel like family at their neighborhood health center. The staff speaks their language – literally and figuratively! But more importantly, health centers provide primary care, preventive health care and a multitude of other services to adults, families and elderly residents from all walks of life. Community health centers are among the most efficient and most caring primary care providers in the industry. In fact, many exceed national quality standards. And, in many parts of California, health centers are the only provider of comprehensive primary and preventive health care services in the community.

Community health centers are also economic engines. According to a recent report from Capital Link, California’s community health centers contributed more than $8 billion to the California economy and supported nearly 60,000 jobs in 2015. That same year, community health centers saved the state’s Medi-Cal program $5.5 billion and saved the overall health system $7.5 billion. In doing so, health centers also increased access to care for our most vulnerable people. From 2012 to 2015, we saw a 25 percent increase in the number of patients we served and a 33 percent decline in uninsured patients over the same period.

Community health centers are an essential part of the California economy to the state’s healthcare system. They bring immense value to their patients, their communities, and to the state itself.
