Expedited Partner Therapy for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea

This live event occurred on January 25, 2018; to access a recording of the presentation please continue registering below.

Effective clinical management of patients with treatable sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) requires treatment of the patients' current sex partners to prevent reinfection and curtail further transmission. Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT) is the clinical practice of treating sex partners of patients with a diagnosed STD without the healthcare provider first examining the partner. EPT is effective, safe, acceptable to patients and partners, and has been allowable in California since 2001. In this 60-minute webinar, we will describe best practice partner management strategies for patients with chlamydia and gonorrhea, including information about how eligible practices can access free partner treatment medications for their patients. We will also hear from a health center that has used the free medication program to integrate partner treatment into their practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Increase knowledge about best practices in partner treatment for STD prevention and control;
  • Identify opportunities to integrate expedited partner therapy into the provision of routine STD services;
  • Describe Essential Access Health's free Chlamydia/Gonorrhea Patient-Delivered Partner Therapy Distribution Program, and identify if your clinic is eligible to enroll.
